Friday 21 February 2025 Tree Planting Purple Class took part in a tree planting activity facilitated by the Royal Forestry Society. They had an amazing time and worked together in small groups to achieve their task. We planted over 40 trees in under an hour, showing an amazing team spirit!

Friday 21 February 2025 DT Making Fruit Salad Bronze class practiced their cutting, chopping and grating skills to make a fruit salad for Ms Savage.

Friday 14 February 2025 Love is in the air... Nursery have had a wonderful week exploring Valentines themed learning opportunities and thinking about special people. All our Nursery children are special to the staff here at Fell Dyke and we are super proud of how they have collaborated with their friends during our activities this week!

Friday 14 February 2025 Purple Class History Purple Class looked at primary sources from Ancient Egypt. First, they thought about what they could see in the source through describing its features. Then, the thought about what it might show about the role of slaves or the Pharaoh in society. Finally, we compared the sources to think about how the lives of these two groups were different.

Friday 14 February 2025 Purple Class Laing Art Gallery Visit This week Purple Class had an amazing opportunity to take part in an art workshop at the Laing Art Gallery. After walking around the gallery for inspiration, they created their own designs using foam and printed them onto card. They also enjoyed looking around Newcastle City center and using the Metro.

Monday 10 February 2025 Turquoise's trip to The Laing. The children in Turquoise Class took a trip to Newcastle to visited the Laing Art Gallery. We used public transport, which was great to get us prepared for secondary school. We took the 56 bus from school to Market Street in Newcastle. Once we arrived we walked to the Laing, where we took part in a Printmaking workshop then had our lunch. We finished with a very wet walk through Newcastle stopping outside the library before walking up to Haymarket Metro. We took the Metro from Haymarket to Gateshead and then took the 56 back to school! What a fantastic day!

Friday 7 February 2025 NSPCC Number Day Thank you to all the parents, staff and children for their amazing effort today to make our first Number Day a huge success! The children looked fabulous ‘dressed up for digits’ and the donations made will help to fund the vital work of the NSPCC.

Friday 7 February 2025 Nursery Number Day! Nursery had lots of fun celebrating NSPCC's 'Dress Up For Digit's Day'. They took part in lots of number related activities, developing their counting skills and recognition of numerals.

Thursday 6 February 2025 Brilliant Books Nursery enjoyed a visit from our local librarian this week. Joanne shared some of her favourite books before leaving a wonderful surprise. A pack of books for all the children to take home and enjoy!

Thursday 6 February 2025 Red Class Library Trip The children in Red Class thoroughly enjoyed their local trip to Wrekenton library. After visiting the school library each week it was a special treat for us to get on our walking shoes and head just around the corner. Once we arrived, Joanne greeted us and showed us around. We listened to some of Joanne's favourite stories before exploring the books ourselves. Each child chose and scanned out a book to bring back to class. Each of the children's choices will be used on the class voting station so everyone's choices can be shared. We are hoping to visit the library again soon to explore more of our favourite stories and books.

Thursday 6 February 2025 Year 1/2 - February - shapes The children in Blue class have started their learning on shape. They have placed shapes over the top of other shapes, created tangram pictures and mirrored pictures with a partner. They have been trying really hard to use their new vocabulary word “rotate” when creating their shape pictures.

Tuesday 4 February 2025 Laing Art Gallery Orange The children in Orange Class visited the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle. For this visit, the children used public transport. Monday 3 February 2025 Chinese New Year in Reception Lunar New Year celebrations are underway in Reception. This year we are celebrating the year of the snake. The children listened to the folk story and ordered the animals who placed in the race. We then took part in many activities to develop both our skills and our knowledge of Chinese new year traditions. We made "Hong bao" which are lucky money wallets, Chinese lanterns, fire breathing dragons and fans. On Friday we had a special treat and we discussed and used the words salty, crunchy, hard, soft, hot and cold to describe some foods that we ate. These included egg noodles, egg friend rice, crispy seaweed, fortune cookies, prawn crackers and curry sauce.

Thursday 30 January 2025 Rose Class - Local Library Trip Rose class children were lucky enough to go on a trip to our local library in Wrekenton ahead of National Story telling Week on 3rd February 2025. We walked from school to the the library, looking at and talking about our local environment and familiar buildings as we passed them.

Tuesday 28 January 2025 Amazing Animals! This half term the Nursery children have been learning all about different animals. They have explored lots of activities linked to farm and jungle animals. They have been trying hard to recognise, name and describe animals. They are beginning to think about where animals live and how we can take care of those in our environment.

Tuesday 28 January 2025 Luna New Year! Nursery have had a wonderful time learning about the Luna New Year this week! They especially enjoyed a visit from our friend Joy who shared the story of 'The Great Race'.

Friday 24 January 2025 Y1/2 Fruit Tasting The children in Pink and Blue classes enjoyed tasting different seasonal fruits in DT. They tried green apples, red apples, plums, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and pears. They talked about the texture and taste of the fruit, including the skin, deciding whether they were soft, crunchy, sweet or sharp.

Monday 20 January 2025 Computing in Bronze class This half term Year 2 are learning about algorithms in Computing. This week we have been giving commands to the Blue-Bots to move them in a straight line and turn left and right.

Tuesday 14 January 2025 Year 2 - Hundertwasser Art In Autumn term we learned about the artist and architect Freidensreich Hundertwasser. We learned that he was inspired by nature and he liked curved rather than straight lines. His paintings are very colourful so we used our colouring skills to create our final masterpieces.

Tuesday 14 January 2025 Year 3 - January- Maths Jade Class have enjoyed using counters to represent arrays. They have been writing repeated addition number sentences and multiplication number sentences to match the arrays.

Monday 13 January 2025 Year 3/4 - November - Great North Museum Jade, Scarlet and Gold class visited the Great North Museum as Historians and Scientists. They learned how rocks are formed and classified them. They travelled back in time to the Roman Empire and learned what it was like to be Roman soldier living on Hadrian's Wall.

Wednesday 8 January 2025 Year 5 Arts Week Year 5 had an outstanding opportunity to work with the artist Jayamini de Silva. The artists visited Purple class and discussed the 'Day of the Dead' celebration and the imagery surrounding it. After that, the class created their own sugar skull designs in the style of the 'Day of the Dead'.

Thursday 19 December 2024 EYFS Party! Nursery and Reception had a wonderful time at their Christmas party this week! They were so well behaved that Santa decided to make a surprise visit!

Friday 13 December 2024 Brilliant Brass! The children were treated to a special event today! The People's Mission Silver Band came to visit and played some carols and Christmas songs for us all to enjoy! The children especially enjoyed singing Starry Night and Jingle Bells along with the band.

Wednesday 11 December 2024 Crafty Christmas Fun! The children in Nursery had a wonderful time completing Christmas Crafts with their parents and carers on Monday. They enjoyed showing their grown-ups around the setting and making some special Christmas items to take home.

Tuesday 3 December 2024 'It's Beginning to look a Lot Like Christmas!' The children in Nursery had an exciting start to the week! A beautiful Christmas tree was waiting for the children as they arrived at Nursery ready to be decorated. The children took turns adding baubles to our real life tree. They also added some festive touches to our Home Corner and enjoyed sharing stories about how they are preparing for Christmas with their families.

Wednesday 27 November 2024 Terrific Tiny Tweeties! Nursery had an amazing time with our special visitors Rachel and Chris from Tiny Tweeties. They brought their Christmas magic to our morning and afternoon sessions and got us all feeling festive. The children sang winter and Christmas themed songs using instruments and puppets. They used their speaking and listening skills to follow the rhythm of the music, learn new vocabulary and respond to different instructions. Everyone had an amazing time and is looking forward to another visit from our Tiny Tweeties friends!

Tuesday 26 November 2024 Artist Visit Reception have had a visit from the artist Jayamini de Silva this week. Jayamini talked to Reception about Rangoli patterns and the festival of Diwali and taught the children how to create their very own Rangoli patterns.

Monday 25 November 2024 Visiting Artist The children in Nursery had a wonderful time working alongside visiting artist Jayamini de Silva as part of the school's arts week. The children used coloured rice to decorate rangoli patterns. It was wonderful to revisit our learning on Diwali and explore this art form further.

Sunday 24 November 2024 Year 6 SafteyWorks! Year 6 learnt how to stay safe on their trip to SafetyWorks! They found out what would happen if they broke the law. Also, how to remain safe out in our community and make good choices if they ever experience peer pressure.

Tuesday 12 November 2024 KS1 Sponsored Run Well done to our children in Key Stage 1 who raised money for Children in Need by completing a one mile sponsored run around the school grounds! It was lovely to be cheered on by spectators on Springwell Road! A huge thank you also to our super Y5 Playground Leaders who supported the children on the run. And finally thank you to the parents, carers and families who have donated to the cause.

Tuesday 12 November 2024 Super Sportsability 15 children from Orange Class attended a Sportsability festival at Gateshead International Stadium. The children took part in 8 different activities. The children demonstrated all of our Fell Dyke values. We are very proud of them all. Take a look at what we got up to.

Monday 11 November 2024 Remembrance day in Reception Reception have been learning about the significance of poppies. We learnt all about wearing a poppy, who we are remembering and why. The children then used collage materials and the technique of scrunching to create their own poppy. They have been displayed outside of our classrooms for everyone to share. At 11am today we held our 2 minute silence as a sign of respect.

Friday 8 November 2024 Awesome Art The children in Blue Class have started work on their inspiration page for their artist this half term, Friedensreich Hundertwasser. They chose pictures that they liked, along with words they thought best described the artwork. The children loved using their sketch books!

Thursday 7 November 2024 Go bananas for red words! The children in Pink and Blue class love it when the weekly banana delivery comes. It is another fun opportunity for the children to get in that practice of reading red words. Miss Cameron gets to work with her trusted sharpie adding lots of words to the fruit for the children to read at break times.

Wednesday 6 November 2024 Children in Need Fun Run The children in Year 3 and Year 4 completed their 1 mile fun run around our school to raise money for the Children in Need charity. This meant we had to run around the school ground 5 times. The adults were very proud of the children - they demonstrated so many of our Fell Dyke Values! The children's friendship and determination were particularly on show as they rallied each other on to complete the challenge. Every single pupil got involved and gave it 110%. What's more, we knew our challenge was making a difference for others so it made our accomplishment even sweeter.

Tuesday 5 November 2024 Something Spooky This Way Comes... Nursery had a wonderful time preparing for Halloween. They listened to and retold spooky stories and explored lots of interesting activities in our learning environment. The children especially enjoyed making their own potions and observing the frozen witches fingers!

Tuesday 5 November 2024 Super Soft Play Nursery have started off this new half term exploring the soft play in the school hall. They used their gross motor skills to crawl, climb and jump their way around an obstacle course.

Monday 4 November 2024 Reception Stay and Play Reception held their first stay and play of the year in the last week of Autumn half term. It was lovely to see so many parents in the classroom exploring all of the spooky challenges which were set. The children loved having their nearest and dearest to support them. Friday 1 November 2024 Autumn in Pink Class What a great first half term we have had in Pink Class! We have particularly enjoyed developing our computing skills, showing off our creative skills in the construction areas and learning about The Great Fire of London in history. We have loved learning about animals and living things and can’t wait to continue this learning in science next half term!

Thursday 24 October 2024 Orange Class Visit to Live Theatre The children in Orange Class had a fantastic visit to the Live Theatre today in Newcastle. We started off the visit with a lovely photo opportunity on the Millennium Bridge before starting the workshop. The children loved the workshop and came up with a very imaginative story.

Thursday 24 October 2024 Partitioning Numbers in Jade class Jade Class have loved partitioning numbers on the yard using chalk and base ten. They took turns rolling a dice to make a three digit number then represented it in a part whole model. Once they had represented the number they used chalk to draw the addition sentence below.

Tuesday 22 October 2024 Nursery Spell Party! Nursery welcomed some exciting visitors today. We listened to a story and met some of the animals from that story. The children were very brave and used their gentle hands to touch and stroke some of the animals.

Monday 21 October 2024 Purple Class Visit 'Live Theatre' Newcastle Year 5 had a fantastic morning out at the Live Theatre in Newcastle recently. After a lovely autumnal walk along the quayside, they took part in a creative writing workshop where they said 'YES!' to every idea going. Eventually, the ended up with the bones of a story, all about a talking birthday cake (you really had to be there), before continuing the narrative in their own unique ways.

Tuesday 15 October 2024 Happy Hedgehog Bread After reading the story 'The Happy Hedgehog Band' the children in Nursery baked their own hedgehog bread. They used their maths and fine motor skills to measure, mix, knead and shape the dough. It tasted delicious too!

Tuesday 15 October 2024 Searching a Microhabitat As part of our Science topic, Living Things and their Habitats, Bronze class went in search of living things in some microhabitats of our forest. The best places to find insects were under old logs and at the bottom of trees. We found spiders, centipedes, snails, slugs and some woodlouse. Back in the classroom we made a pictogram of our findings.

Tuesday 15 October 2024 KS1 Athletics Some of the children in Pink and Blue class represented our school at a recent athletics festival. The children competed in different events such as throwing, sprinting, long jump and high jump. The children were all excellently behaved and demonstrated just how amazing we are at Fell Dyke!

Tuesday 15 October 2024 Cool Coaching During our first half term in Gold Class the children have been coached by Jed from Active Futures. The children have learned different ways to pass the ball, the rules of the game and have taken part in a mini tournament.

Thursday 10 October 2024 Excellent Experience Turquoise class had a great time exploring the forest. We are currently focusing our writing on a novel titled Thornhill. This is a suspense story set in an abandoned house. During one of our lessons, we went down to the forest to experience how the character Ella would have felt in the garden of the abandoned house. We thought about what she would see, how she would feel and what she may hear. We then used this to produce a fantastic piece of writing.

Friday 27 September 2024 Forest Fridays As well as exploring their new classrooms the children in Reception have also spent Friday afternoon exploring our school forest. Each week we have learnt about the different rules when entering the forest, walking near the fire pit and going up and down the hills.

The children have been exploring their new classroom environment and engaging in rainbow challenges. They have enjoyed our reading, writing and maths lessons as well as PE, history, PSHE and science this week. Tuesday 16 July 2024 Nursery Sports Day Nursery children loved taking part in their sports day. They worked hard at each of the challenges and supported their friends by cheering them on. The children showed off their skills by moving around different obstacles, scoring goals and using great hand-eye coordination to get their bean bags into the correct hoops. We are so proud of all of their efforts!

Thursday 11 July 2024 Y3/4 visit Washington Wetlands Year 3 and 4 loved their visit to Washington Wetlands. During the day, they took part in lots of fun activities linked to their science unit. They loved going pond dipping and found lots of different creatures.

Wednesday 10 July 2024 Y5/6 perform High School Musical! Year 5/6 treated our school community to some tremendous performances of High School Musical this week, the result of weeks (and in a few cases, months...) of preparation.

Wednesday 10 July 2024 STEM Week This year Fell Dyke Celebrated STEM Week in a range of different ways. The theme of the week was 'Time' and each year group added their own unique spin to their activities.

Wednesday 3 July 2024 Year 1/2 are rainforest explorers... Y1/2 enjoyed a visit to Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens as part of our learning in geography about rainforests. It was the closest we could get to exploring a real rainforest!
